A lot of positives should be taken out of the game for the Socceroos however and their first half showing highlighted that they are no easy-beats and come January they could be one of the favorites to lift the cup or at least come close!
With a little better finishing the score line could well have been different in the first half for Australia had Mathew Leckie and Robbie Kruse’ chances hit the back of the net.
Ironically, Japan were far the better team in the second half but Tim Cahill scored in injury time for the Socceroos with, yes you guessed it – a great header!
Manager Ange Postecoglu wont be down beat about the performance and it could be said that he wasn’t showing his full hand this close to the Asian Cup – especially with Tim Cahill and Mark Bresciano starting on the bench. Surely they’ll be starters when the big competition rolls around.
