Big headlines for round 7 of the Barclays Premier League this week were, Chelsea staying top of the league with a comfortable win over Arsenal, Manchester United squeezing their way into the top four and into the Champions League places and Mauricio Pochettino recording a win against his old employers Southampton.
After losing (unluckily) at Man United last week West Ham eased past QPR and their old boss Harry Redknapp with a comfortable 2-0 win. Sakho took his tally to 5 goals in 5 games and it seems as if they have finally found a consistent scorer. Well needed especially as Andy Carroll is still some way off a return.
Arsenal were made to look quite ordinary by Chelsea who had Hazard and Diego Costa to thank for some clinical finishes. Chelsea now sit on top by 5 clear points above Manchester City who also had a comfortable 2-0 win at Aston Villa. Aguero and (finally) Toure getting on the scoresheet for the first time this season.
Another team with a 2-0 comfortable win was Hull City, who beat Crystal palace. Mo Diame scored his third goal in 3 games and jelavic struck in the 89th minute to seal the points for the Tigers.
Talking of late goals, Ross Wallace earned a last gasp point for Burnley at Leicester, pulling the score back to 2-2 when it looked as if Leicester were on to take all 3 points.
Manchester United and Liverpool both recorded 2-1 home wins against Everton and West Brom respectively. Jordan Henderson scored Liverpool’s winner and Falcao scored Manchester United’s 60th minute clincher.
Newcastle United still remain win-less after a 2-2 draw away to Swansea, leaving manager Alan Pardews head still firmly on the chopping block! while a little pressure was taken off their across-town rivals Sunderland, who beat Stoke City 3-1 at home with goals from Fletcher (2) and Wickham.
Don’t forget the A-league starts back today with David Villa set to make his debut for Melbourne City over the weekend and Brisbane Roar try to win back to back premierships. Gotta love football!!!!
